to board domestic commercial flights or enter a federal facility without a secondary form of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approved identification.\u200b<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">We get a lot of questions about Maryland Real ID!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">To answer the most common &#8211; NO, YOU CANNOT APPLY FOR THE REAL ID ONLINE.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">You can only get your Maryland Real ID IN PERSON at the MVA.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080; font-size: revert;\">You will need to go to the MVA website through the link below to learn what you will need to bring for your particular situation.&nbsp; There are differing requirements regarding age, military status, and immigration status.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mva.maryland.gov\/Pages\/realid.aspx\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>CLICK HERE &#8211; MVA website<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">REAL ID HISTORY<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul id=\"cphContent_ulUndocumentedID\"><\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span id=\"What-Is-the-REAL-ID-Act\">What Is the REAL ID Act?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Formulated in the wake of September 11 and passed by Congress in 2005, the REAL ID Act was passed to \u201cset standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver\u2019s licenses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The act established&nbsp;<strong>minimum security standards for state-issued driver\u2019s licenses and identification cards<\/strong>, and it prohibits federal agencies from accepting licenses and identification cards from states that do not meet these standards for official purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It was aimed at eliminating airline terrorism by increasing requirements to obtain documents granting access to domestic planes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">State agencies like the Department of Motor Vehicles require more paperwork regarding proof of residency and Social Security Number when issuing licenses and identification cards under the new act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In addition, the cards themselves will also be built using new technology, making them much more&nbsp;difficult to forge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span id=\"What-Does-a-REAL-ID-Look-Like\">What Does a REAL ID Look Like?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In most states, there is a gold or black star on the front of the license that will signify compliance. If you see this, then you\u2019re good to go.&nbsp; In Maryland, there is a black circle with a star in the middle on the front of the ID or license.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span id=\"What-the-REAL-ID-Act-ISN8217T\">What the REAL ID ISN\u2019T!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A REAL ID is NOT a substitute for a&nbsp;passport for international travel.
